Lot 238
(2ª mitad S.XVIII)
FRANCESCO ABBIATI Mandelo, Italy (2nd half of the 18th century) Neoclassical marquetry table
Four legs also decorated with herms. Drawer in waist. It has faults. Francesco Abbiati was one of the most important cabinetmakers of Italian Neoclassicism. He received commissions from important clients such as Queen Maria Carolina for the palace of Naples or from Queen Maria Luisa of Parma, for which he traveled to Madrid in 1791. The table presented here is very interesting not only for its quality and provenance but also for being one of the few signed pieces known. It can be compared with the one held at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles (84.DA.77) and with the one auctioned at Christie’s, New York, on November 23, 2010, under lot 274. Dimensions: 71 x 58 x 57 cm Bibliography: -Gillian Wilson and Catherine Hess, “Summary catalog of European decorative arts in the J. Paul Getty Museum”, The J.
