VARIOUS AUTHORS (19TH CENTURY) "Liber amicorum" by Matilde de Nava O'Doyle, Countess of Noroña

The book consists of 85 pages dated between 1830 and 1838 with a wide content of watercolors, drawings, engravings and dedications from writers, politicians and aristocrats. Moroccan binding with dry irons, super-libris with the owner's initials and gilt brass closure. Matilde de Nava was the daughter of Gaspar Maria de Nava Alvarez de las Asturias, Count of Noroña, and Maria Africa O'Doyle y de Molina. The Count stood out for his military career, also serving as a diplomat, serving as the Spanish ambassador to the Swiss Cantons (1799-1802) and later in St. Petersburg (Russia), where he remained until 1808. He combined his military and diplomatic activities with literary work, writing both theatrical dramas and epic and lyric poetry. He composed the prose comedies El hombre marcial and El cortejo enredador (The Martial Man) and El cortejo enredador (The Entangling Courtship), and the verse tragedy Madama Gonzalez (The Martial Man), but it was in his poetic works that he demonstrated his greatest talent.
