SPANISH SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) "The French battleship Devast

Oil on panel Signed in the lower left corner "L. or I.? Sanz". Perhaps it is the painter Ildefonso Sanz Domenech (1863-1937), an imitation of his signature or that of another unidentified painter. On the back is an inscription identifying the ship. This ship was launched in 1879, being a French battleship or armored ship designed by the naval architect Louis de Bussy (1822-1903) conceived to be the most powerful ship of its time, but the reality was that it never saw combat and languished due to its serious design problems. In 1888 it was in the port of Barcelona for the Universal Exposition of that year, and perhaps it was at that time and place where it was immortalized in the present painting. Measurements: 13 x 22.4 cm
