SIMON JOHANNES VAN DOUW (1630 / 1677) "A stop along the way

Oil on canvas. Master in Antwerp in 1654, member of the Gilda de Middelbourg in 1656. In 1666 he went to Rotterdam. His students were P. Van Bloemen, C. de Fonteyn, Franc Valk, Nicolas de La Haye. He specialized in paintings of battles with horses and genre scenes such as the present one, very characteristic of his style. His work is represented in Amsterdam, Lille, Mayence, Prague. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 59.5 x 85.5 cm.
