Sepia ink on paper. Signed. Bibliography: - GonzAlez Lopez, C. and Marti Ayxelà, M., "Mariano Fortuny Marsal", Barcelona, 1989, vol. II, p. 134, cat. no. RT-2.0.69/70. Mariano Fortuny is, without a doubt, one of the most prominent Spanish artists of the last third of the 19th century. His oil paintings are characterized by their precise, brilliant, and colorful technique, notable for the painter's special skill in approximating nature and capturing light. Lacking color, his quick, nervous drawings are the foundation of his ability to reflect different aspects of reality. This quill pen example shows a profile portrait of the painter Jose Villegas Cordero (Seville, 1844-Madrid, 1921), a disciple of Fortuny in Rome who served as director of the Prado Museum from 1901 to 1918 and with whom he maintained a close friendship ever since. Dimensions: 14 x 10 cm.
