GERMAN MANUFACTURE (Low 19th - Early 20th Century) Violin

Includes fingerboard (or tuning peg) and two bows. Some parts have been replaced, such as the pegs, bridge, and chin rest. The interior label reads: "Matteo Gofriller fecit/in Venetia 1735," referring to Matteo Gofriller (1649-1752), an important Venetian luthier active between 1685 and 1735. It comes in a German case with the serial number DRGM No. 137266. The violin shows signs of wear and tear. An envelope from The Rudolph Wurlitzer Co. (New York) and a card from M. Nebel & Bro. (New York), dated October 1931, are included, corresponding to payment for various adjustments and replacement parts made to the violin. Provenance: Private collection, Madrid. Dimensions: 60 x 20.5 x 5.5 cm.
