Oil on canvas. On the reverse, attached to the canvas, old label from the “Ibero-American Exhibition 1929-1930”, no. 117. Provenance: Jerez de la Frontera, Pedro Lámbarri and García del Salto collection; private collection. Exhibitions: “Ibero-American Exhibition 1929-1930”, Catalogue of the ancient art section (1929), Mudejar Palace, Seville, 9 May 1929 - 21 June 1930, Seville, 163. According to the study carried out by José María Quesada, we are looking at a sketch most likely painted in his Madrid period, between 1692 and 1702, of which the final large canvas has not been located; Although, as the specialist himself points out, Giordano left a large number of sketches at this stage of his life that were never adapted into a large altar painting. Quesada points out in his study Giordano's admiration for Velázquez, indicating the influence of some of his works. In its compositional aspects he relates it to the work of the same name kept in the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art in Orihuela and in its technical aspects, such as the type of preparation or tonality, with the "Homage to Velázquez" in the National Gallery in London. He appreciates Giordano's own stylistics in the models of the angels of the breaking of glory, especially in the little angel in the foreground with blond hair who descends on the saint's head. A study of the work from the Institute of Historical-Artistic Studies carried out by José María Quesada Valera is included. Measurements: 65 x 45.5 cm.
