One of the most outstanding figures of Spanish Renaissance painting is Juan Correa de Vivar. Born in Toledo, he trained with the painter Juan de Borgoña and was also influenced by Pedro Berruguete. His paintings, as can be seen in this beautiful panel depicting the “Nativity of Christ” or in its companion panel, the “Adoration of the Magi” (lot 105), demonstrate this in his meticulous and detailed drawing, his soft colors, and the delicacy of his figures.
