Oil on canvas. Guillermo Mesquida, a painter of Italian training, is considered the most important figure in 18th-century Mallorcan painting. He painted portraits, religious paintings, and also mythologies and landscapes, mainly for the decoration of the great palaces of the local nobility. His painting is framed within a Rococo aesthetic, as demonstrated by this beautiful painting depicting the Virgin of Carmen, with its delicate forms and rhythmic color palette.
