GUILLERMO MESQUIDA

(1675 / 1747)

GUILLERMO MESQUIDA Palma de Mallorca (1675 / 1747) "Virgen del Carmen"

Oil on canvas. Guillermo Mesquida, a painter trained in Italy, is considered the most important figure in 18th-century Mallorcan painting. He practiced portraiture, religious painting, and also mythological and landscape paintings, which were primarily intended to adorn the grand palaces of the local nobility. His painting is rooted in the Rococo aesthetic, as demonstrated by this beautiful painting of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, with its delicate forms and harmonious color palette. The work comes from a private Mallorcan collection and retains its original mixtilinear frame. Dimensions: 160 x 119 cm.
