First edition of this famous account of the Benedictine missionaries who accompanied Columbus. The author is known to be Caspar Plautius, abbot of Seitenstetten, Austria. The text cites in detail the flora, fauna, agricultural products and customs of the Caribbean; it labels the natives as barbarians, arguing that Satan ruled American religious ideologies; thus branding the Protestant de Brys and his writings as liars.
