ATTRIBUTED TO PEDRO DE LA CUADRA (? - Valladolid, 1629) "Visitation of the Virgin to Saint Elizabeth"

Medium relief in carved, gilded, polychromed, and brocaded wood. The late Romanist style of this interesting medium relief, which already displays a certain naturalistic tendency, is very close to that of the works of the sculptor Pedro de la Cuadra. The figures exhibit his characteristic physiognomic features, with prominent eyes and Greek noses. The roughness that characterizes much of his production is evident in this work, and experts attribute it to the frequent subcontracting the sculptor undertook with other masters. It shows losses of polychromy and restorations that were possibly carried out in the Granda Art Workshops, judging by the label affixed to the back of the work. Dimensions: 106 x 93 cm.
