ACISCLO ANTONIO PALOMINO Y VELASCO Bujalance (Cordoba) (165

Oil on canvas. Antonio Palomino was one of the key figures of Baroque painting in Spain. In addition to his abundant pictorial output, both fresco and canvas, he also served as a theologian and treatise writer. His "Pictorial Museum and Optical Scale" stands out as one of the main sources for the history of Spanish Baroque painting. This large canvas is dedicated to Saint Rosalia of Palermo, protector against epidemics, but the prominence of the holy archangels in the scene could indicate that this painting originated in Cordoba. Saint Raphael is especially venerated in Cordoba, a city where Palomino carried out various commissions, such as the paintings for the main altarpiece of the cathedral. Measurements: 170 x 120 cm.
