Emilio Sala was one of the great figures of Spanish painting at the end of the 19th century, standing out as a painter of history pictures and in the execution of mural paintings intended for the decoration of public and private buildings of late-century Madrid high society. Another of his specialities, perhaps the least known, was the genre of portraiture, in which he developed greater expressive freedom, anticipating in some respects the modern portrait. One of his best-known works in this genre is the Portrait of Maria Guerrero,. Measurements: 80 x 66.5 cm
