The Expert’s Choice… Jewellery and Watches from the May Auction

Diamonds, vintage pieces, and collectible watches take centre stage in our experts’ special selection for the May auction. A carefully curated edit of jewellery and timepieces that brings together elegance, uniqueness, and collector value.

One of the main reasons we attend auctions is undoubtedly the desire to acquire unique and exclusive pieces. Auctions offer access to jewellery from other eras, discontinued designer creations, and pieces with an unmistakable history and character.

I begin with this magnificent pair of natural pear-shaped diamonds, of extraordinary beauty and outstanding quality in colour, clarity, and carat weight. Their uniqueness also lies in the exceptional rarity of finding stones of such dimensions and characteristics in nature. Both gems are accompanied by individual certificates, available to the client upon request. The pair carries a starting price of €400,000.

As for historical jewellery, we travel back to the Iron Age with lot 1496, comprising a pair of torques and a gold bracelet from the 3rd to 1st centuries BC, belonging to the Castro Culture. A small treasure within reach of collectors and museums alike. The lot carries a starting price of €195,000.

Slightly smaller examples, also originating from Ourense, can be found in the British Museum.

For collectors of Belle Époque jewellery, I would highlight a minaudière bearing Czech hallmarks from the first third of the 20th century, crafted in 14K gold and featuring compartments for powder, a mirror, and lipstick.

Starting price: €11,700.

Its origins date back to the 1920s and 1930s, when minaudières emerged as a sophisticated alternative to traditional evening handbags, offering a compact jewelled accessory instead. The inspiration is said to have come when Charles Arpels observed socialite Florence Jay Gould carrying her cosmetics and cigarettes inside a simple metal box.

Another of the jewels set to attract considerable interest is a necklace composed of brilliant-cut diamond collets arranged in graduated form from the centre towards the sides. The central stones are certified by IGE and HRD, with a total carat weight of 30.70 ct.

Starting price: €89,000.

In the watches section, the undisputed star is lot 1416: a Patek Philippe Twenty~4 model in gold, fully set with brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 9.80 ct.

Starting price: €100,000.
